Hello, my name is Shanton Roberson and I am a Licensed Independent Social Worker. I am very passionate about my line of work because I do the work first and I know how challenging the work can be. It is the most beautiful ugly experience ever.
My approach
I am a person-centered therapist and you best know your story. I am here to interpret or to just be a sounding board so that we can work through it together. My most common theoretical approaches are psychodynamic, behavioral, cognitive, and humanistic.
My focus
I work with clients who have symptoms of anxiety, depression, PTSD, complex trauma, addiction, couples, grief, and interpersonal relationship skills. I currently do not have a cap on what I am most comfortable treating as I've worked with many individuals and families who have experienced a variety of mental health diagnoses and complications.
My communication style
I am a very personable and motivational person and the environment that I create for my sessions is that of safety, judgment-free, and freedom. I encourage people to release what does not serve them.
My journey to mental healthcare
I'm from the inner city of Detroit and due to my own personal experiences I became desperate for healing and to understand my own cognitive and maladaptive behaviors.
My goals for you
I am person-centered and I operate from the client's right to self-determination. I allow a person to inform me what is most pressing in their life at the moment and we establish our goals from where they are.
My first session with you
During our first session, I will engage in what I call an icebreaker moment so that we can build that rapport. I want you to know that I see you, past any shame, guilt, or pain. I want to relate to you as human to human, not therapist to patient. So expect, if it's appropriate, to laugh.
