Hi, I'm William Lockhart, LPC. However, I go by Lee. I had sadistic parents who named me one thing and called me something else. I'm licensed in Alabama as an LPC. My license number is 2936. In my 16+ years of practice, I have worked with almost every type of client and an array of issues, though my primary focus has been on clients with substance use issues and mood disorders.
My approach
I have a generally directive approach while fully respecting your right to choose and live your life as you see fit. I primarily work from a Cognitive Behavioral, Person-Centered, and Solution-Focused frame of reference. I also use techniques and tools from Motivational Interviewing and Dialectical Behavioral Therapy.
My focus
I have experience working with clients with substance abuse and dependence issues, depression, anxiety, legal problems, family problems, LGBTQ+ clients, domestic violence issues (both survivors and perpetrators), Native American (Yupik) clients, and clients within the kink community.
My communication style
In me, you will find a non-judgemental confidant and advisor. I attempt to set a comfortable tone with my clients through humor and by providing space to be our genuine selves.
My journey to mental healthcare
I love to see the hard work of my clients pay off as they create the change, and the lives, they want to see. I like knowing I am a small part of that process.
My goals for you
I view therapy as a collaboration between two professionals. You are a professional in your life and what you want. I am a professional in bringing about change. We work together to bring about the desired change. Just as therapy is collaborative, so is the development of a therapeutic goal.
My first session with you
I believe that developing rapport is of utmost importance during our first session together. As such, we will begin to get to know each other and the process of discovering a direction for your future change process.
