Hello, my name is Jenny Turner, I am a licensed clinical social worker in California. I approach each client with respect and empathy to earn trust to develop a strong therapeutic alliance.
My approach
I am a firm believer in strengths perspective, I feel we all deserve to develop a strong sense of self with a positive self-image. I routinely utilize CBT, DBT, and motivational interviewing in combination with additional theoretical approaches to ensure each individual receives personalized care.
My focus
Most of my clientele are going through transitional periods that have created or triggered anxiety and depression symptoms. They are seeking to develop coping skills, process their emotions, and improve their daily living. I also have experience in treating those with PTSD, body image issues, low self-esteem, behavioral issues, bi-polar, and schizophrenia.
My communication style
I pride myself on offering a safe, non-judgmental environment that encourages clients to feel relaxed while processing their emotions and working towards their therapeutic goals. My goal is to always be myself, in the hope that it will allow my clients to do the same.
My journey to mental healthcare
Originally, my intention was to become a social worker with a focus on protecting human rights of the elderly population. Through time I noticed I enjoyed providing emotional support to clients in addition to addressing their basic needs. This realization lead me to pursue a license and I began to work in county behavioral health, which began my journey into private practice and working as a therapist in schools. Currently, I am back in private practice and finding joy in being part of the lives of all the individuals I have had the privilegde to work with, even if just for a moment.
My goals for you
Through questions and collaborative discussion, the client and I will explore and decide on their goals. The client is in control of their progress towards those goals, and they have the freedom to modify them at any point. I am here to serve as a guide in this proces, I believe empowerment originates from within the client themselves, rather than through me telling them what the goals "should" be.
My first session with you
Clients can expect a comfortable assessment process, which may involve discussing baseline information and childhood experiences. The first session is primarily focused on gathering information to make a well-informed diagnosis. Once a strong rapport is established in following sessions, the therapeutic work will begin.
