My name is Fausto Poza, I'm a Licensed Marriage & Family Therapist (LMFT), and I work mostly with couples and individuals on a wide variety of issues, most commonly anxiety, relationship difficulties, depression, grief, and anger. I generally describe my approach as person-centered, as the therapeutic relationship is the foundation for progress and healing.
My approach
Through a client-centered approach, I'll work side by side with you, helping you navigate a path forward that you feel comfortable with. An important part of this is encouraging self-awareness, looking at thought and behavior patterns that are interfering with goals, and may have gone unnoticed.
My focus
I've helped people work through anxiety, grief, depression, cultural and relational issues, and trauma, among many other types of challenges. When I work with couples, my priority is to focus on improving communication, reducing emotional reactivity, helping couples see each other more clearly, and charting a path to the relationship they want to have.
My communication style
My style is authentic, non-judgmental, and focused on creating an environment where people can look at themselves and understand that whatever they see is all right, even as they seek to change it. It's important to me to connect with my clients and help them to feel 'seen' and understood.
My journey to mental healthcare
Part of my story is that I spent many years living overseas doing work that brought me face-to-face with many people who shared their lives, interests, frustrations, and dreams. I learned a great deal about culture, how to connect with people of diverse backgrounds, and the ways in which we are all very different, yet in many ways, very similar. One of my values is a strong desire to leave my little corner of the world better than how I found it. With this background, becoming a therapist felt like a natural progression, and I find what I do to be greatly fulfilling.
My first session with you
In the first session, I want to get to know you, gather basic information to help get us started, answer any questions you may have, discuss your goals, share my thoughts on possible paths forward, and leave you with a tool or idea related to your goal that you can get started working on.
