Hi! My name is Lydia Jordan, LMFT & Diplomate, A-CBT. I work with individuals hoping to improve how they feel, think, and act using compassion-focused and trauma-informed CBT, with a particular emphasis on Eating, Mood, and Anxiety disorder diagnoses. I am also sensitive to Women's Life-Span concerns (including pregnancy & per-menopause) and recovery from Religious Trauma.
My approach
I invite my clients to start a therapeutic conversation using the evidence-based and highly effective CBT interventions best suited to their concerns, including Compassion-Focused CBT, Somatic-Informed CBT, CBT-E for Eating Disorders, Cognitive Processing, Prolonged Exposure, Trauma-Informed and Recovery-Oriented Cognitive Therapy.
My focus
My practice focuses on recovery from eating disorder, mood disorders, and anxiety disorders with an emphasis on providing for those who feel unheard or unmet in other spaces. I work to provide safety, accurate empathy, and unconditional positive regard so that my clients can progress towards their goals with confidence.
My communication style
My approach is "lovingly direct" and my clients can expect that I will consistently collaborate with them, "meet them where they are at," and authentically join them in improving every aspect of their life! My clients consistently report that they feel better and show improvement in daily functioning - and if, for whatever reason, our relationship doesn't work, I am honored to help connect them with someone who is a better fit.
My journey to mental healthcare
I've always been interested in helping people and the science of thinking. I earned a Master's Degree in Philosophy from Oxford University and thought I'd be a professor, but the universe had other plans! I taught Middle School for a decade and became increasingly concerned with the mental health issues apparent in my students and their families, and decided to go back to professional school, complete the MS MFT program, and try to make a direct difference. Helping people to heal their relationship with their body, their mood, and to recover full lives from disorder and anxiety using the power of thinking motivates me to do this work.
My goals for you
The fundamentals sound boring, so it's my job as your therapist to make the process as meaningful (and maybe fun) as possible! First, we establish a relationship of understanding and then use a process of guided discovery for the client to clarify their own goals. Then, we use SMART to make those goals Specific, Measurable, Achievable, Relevant, and Timely. The appropriate use of Trauma-Information, Somatic, and Pacing skills are what I can bring to this process to support my clients.
My first session with you
My clients should expect a warm welcome and an orientation to therapy, followed by thorough assessment of their therapeutic needs and the beginnings of goal setting and treatment planning, as well as specific interventions ("coping skills") to use immediately and throughout the week to begin to shift their thinking, feelings, and behavior.
