My Name is Shevan Breaux, I am a Licensed Marriage & Family Therapist (LMFT) based in Riverside, California. Through the telehealth process, I am working with clients statewide. I work with adolescents and adults specializing in anxiety, depression, and stress management using a variety of methods including Person-Centered Therapy, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, and Dialectical Behavioral Therapy.
My approach
My approach to therapy varies. I like to begin with a Person-Centered approach to get to know my client and meet them where they are. Through continued collaboration with the client, my approach will then vary, based on their needs. For example, we may then use a Cognitive Behavioral approach for anxiety or depression. Or, if my client is looking to explore meaning and/or purpose, we may take an Existential approach.
My focus
Through experience, I have found that my approach is a good fit for adolescents and adults working through anxiety, stress, and depression. My goal is to work myself out of a job as a therapist by helping my clients build and develop a sustainable skill set for continued success after therapy has ended.
My communication style
My communication style is open, personable, and relaxed. I want my clients to feel comfortable and confident talking to me about anything and everything in a judgment-free environment.
My journey to mental healthcare
I find fulfillment in helping others work through their difficulties. I fell in love with psychology after my first psychology course in high school and was frequently told that I was insightful and helpful when peers turned to me for guidance or advice. Having been through depression myself, I am passionate about being able to provide the therapeutic assistance that I wish I had taken advantage of years ago.
My goals for you
My approach to goal setting involves collaborating with my client to develop SMART goals: Specific, Measurable, Attainable, Realistic, and Timely. Meeting all of those criteria helps to ensure that both my client and myself are working toward something we can track and achieve.
My first session with you
During our first session, I will spend most of our time listening and getting to know you to help gauge which therapeutic approach would be most beneficial to your specific needs. I believe it is important to build a safe space and solid connection with everyone I work with. You can expect to spend a majority of our time exploring how you are feeling, what led you to therapy, and what you hope to get from therapy.
