Hi there, I'm Nisha!

My name is Nisha Elliott and I am a Licensed Marriage and Family therapist. My normal approach to treatment is Solution Focused however based on the assessment of the individual or couple, the treatment modality would change. My focus is working with couples or individuals who are dealing with issues that are impacting their day-to-day life.

My approach

The most common theoretical approaches that are used in my work are Solution-Focused Brief Therapy, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy and will use skills of Dialectic Behavioral Therapy and techniques that include Genogram, Ecomaps, and Timelines.

My focus

I work with couples who are working toward marriage and married couples who are dealing with issues that are threatening their marriage. Also work with individuals who are struggling with self-esteem and self-worth issues, anxiety and mild to moderate depression, relationship issues, anger, and dealing with stressors that are having a negative impact on their lives.

My communication style

I provide therapy from a client-centered approach in which I partner together to work on what has brought the individual to therapy. Since my primary modality is Solution Focused the ultimate goal is to foster hope and help to build resilience in order for the client to be empowered to work toward the changes they envision in their life.

My journey to mental healthcare

My journey of becoming a therapist started when I volunteered in a daycare in high school, noticing the kids who needed additional support with their behavior and wanting to do more and it led me to obtain my Bachelor's and Master's in Psychology. I have worked in Public Behavioral health for 22 years and I have seen both the severe need for Mental Health services and the mild to moderate need. What drives me is working with individuals in the earlier stages of struggling with Mental Health concerns with the hope that it could prevent more severe symptoms from surfacing.

My goals for you

The client and I set goals together with the client identifying, through conversation, what they think is best for them to work on to improve their life first and improve the issues that resulted in them coming to therapy. Together we will process the duration, intensity, and frequency of the goal to make sure it is reasonable and achievable.

My first session with you

During the first session, the client will be informed of my legal and ethical responsibilities as well as their rights and limits to confidentiality and the protection of their protected information. Also, discuss their consent to obtain services. In addition, there would be a conversation about the typical process of therapy and then the assessment and goal setting would occur in the first session.
