Hi, I'm Danica Garcia, I'm a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist doing telehealth from Northern California. I have experience in a variety of specialties but my current focus is helping my clients heal from trauma in a warm and grounding context. I love facilitating lasting change in the brain so you can live more fully!
My approach
I use a combination of evidence-based practices including psychoeducation to build understanding, somatic (or body-based) skills to manage trauma responses, and Brainspotting, which promotes deep healing in the brain from the effects of trauma and many other forms of distress.
My focus
I see adults of all ages in individual therapy with a focus on how the past is affecting current functioning in order to bring wholeness and healing. Brainspotting is very effective for virtually any condition or diagnosis.
My communication style
My style of therapy is genuine, calming, and in tune with my clients. My clients feel that I create a safe space for them where they feel relaxed, connected, and deeply seen.
My journey to mental healthcare
I chose my career path because I need work that connects me deeply with people and brings healing to others. I've continued to do this work because the privilege of being with another human being in their most vulnerable moments and guiding them to health brings me incredible fulfillment!
My goals for you
I typically like to set goals with a client in the second or third session after we’ve had a chance to build some rapport and clarify what you are wanting to focus on in therapy. Creating simple goals is collaborative and helpful to keep a direction for therapy as well as to measure progress every few months.
My first session with you
In the first session you will get a feel for me as a person and as a therapist, my style, and begin to feel connected as we build trust. We will work on some containment of any initial anxiety, go over the basics of how therapy works including confidentiality, and talk briefly about your hopes for the therapy process.
