Hello! I'm Gustavo Olvera, and I am a Licensed Marriage Family Therapist (LMFT), serving clients via telehealth throughout the State of California. My long-time approach to therapy is to meet the client where they are and work with them to identify goals that will help them improve their quality of life. I believe that we all have the potential to succeed in life and the potential to achieve greatness. A healthy mind is key to success, as we often have to make critical decisions on a daily basis. I believe we can all achieve our desired goals by increasing and maintaining a positive outlook on our mental health.
My approach
My approach while providing therapy is person-centered and goal-oriented, which means I adapt to your needs and personality and what works for you. Other approaches I utilize as part of treatment are Cognitive Behavioral Approaches, CBT, DBT, personal empowerment, trauma-focused, strength and solution-focused techniques, and spirituality to further assist you in achieving desired goals. As part of my therapeutic approach, I also explore childhood issues, trauma, and attachment, as our childhood trauma is often the root of the problems and challenges that we are experiencing today.
My focus
As a License Marriage and Family Therapist, I have developed the skills to provide support through different evidence-based therapeutic theories. The following are areas that I specialize in: Families, children, parenting, co-parenting, trauma, anxiety, depression, child/adult behavior modification, LGBT, victims of abuse, and other challenging areas and mental health conditions.
My communication style
I am caring, non-judgmental, empathic, relaxed, and conversational. As a therapist I like to connect with my clients at a more deep and personal level with the purpose of truly understanding my client's needs, concerns, and challenges. During treatment, I am fully supportive, attentive, and engaged to ensure I am providing you with the best support a therapist can and should provide.
My journey to mental healthcare
What attracted me to wanting to become a therapist was my true and honest desire to help others. Seeing how clients benefit from therapy, seeing how clients can truly overcome their mental illness, and seeing how clients can return to normal and healthy day-to-day living is what really drives me to continue to do the work that I do. Today, I invite you to give yourself the opportunity to start your journey to a better tomorrow; I am inviting you to take a chance. Sadly, we can't change what happened yesterday, nor do we know what will happen tomorrow, but we can hope for a better tomorrow by making positive decisions today.
My goals for you
During our initial session I will be creating a unique treatment plan based on your needs. During treatment planning- together- we will identify goals, interventions, and treatment modalities that will best fit your treatment plan. As part of treatment, measurable goals will be set, and as your therapist, I will provide you with the guidance, support, and resources needed to help you achieve your goals.
My first session with you
During my first session with you, I will focus on building rapport, learning more about you, and listening to your concerns, challenges, and any questions you may have regarding treatment in therapy, and any questions you may have about myself. My goal is to help you feel safe and provide you with hope through psychoeducation and emotional support.
