Hi, my name is Kate and I am a Marriage & Family Therapist. I like the MFT approach because it looks systemically at the client, their family, community, friends, and career and how they affect the client, and the client affects them as well. To me, this makes a lot more sense than just focusing on the individual.
My approach
I like to be open and flexible to meet the client's needs. I am always happy to adjust my approach if the client is needing more or less of anything. The top modalities I use are CBT, Structural Family Therapy, and Relational.
My focus
My ideal client would be coming in ready to do the work, someone who is open to the process and appreciates feedback.
My communication style
During a session I try to communicate using active listening, meeting the client where they are at, accepting, and seeking clarification when I am unclear. In regard to my listening style, I try to maintain eye contact, use encouraging words, and ask relevant questions while appearing warm & non-judgmental.
My journey to mental healthcare
I always knew I wanted to help people from a young age. I started working with kids in the non-profit world and then eventually have only come to work with adults. I prefer working with adults, but still, really love helping people.
My goals for you
More than anything I want the clients to feel like they are progressing. I like the therapeutic goals to be determined collaboratively with myself and the client.
My first session with you
I usually start the first session by learning a little about the person and what they think is important for me to know. I share a bit about myself and my background. More than anything I am trying to build rapport and have the new client feel comfortable.
