Welcome, my name is Amy Gokey, LMHC. My passion is helping people create change in their lives. I enjoy working with people struggling with anxiety, grief, depression, past trauma, or relationship issues.
My approach
I utilize approaches from the interpersonal process, attachment theory, and cognitive behavioral therapy to help you identify and work towards making achievable steps in your healing and recovery. I tend to be direct, yet compassionate during the therapy process.
My focus
I typically see clients struggling with anxiety, grief and loss, relationship issues, or depression. I enjoy working with anyone that wants to grow, change and thrive.
My communication style
I think therapy works best when clients can be honest, straightforward, and process without judgment. I try to encourage vulnerability and will challenge clients to grow through learning new skills and practicing those skills in their daily lives.
My journey to mental healthcare
I've always loved helping people and trying to figure out the puzzle of why we behave and feel the way we do. I believe we can all grow and change and am continuously motivated by clients' success stories.
My goals for you
Goal setting helps us create a road map so we know if we're achieving what you want in therapy. These goals may change as you discover new things about yourself.
My first session with you
We will review the presenting issues motivating you to come to therapy. We'll review past history including mental health, substance use, and relational issues, and formulate goals for treatment. You may be given a tool to practice for your next session as appropriate.
