Welcome! My name is Elizabeth Yoak, I am a Licensed Mental Health Counselor in Florida. Reaching out for help can be an intimidating obstacle at first, and I am so glad you've taken this step! I specialize in helping people overcome trauma, anxiety, and mood disorders.
My approach
In my approach, I use a variety of techniques tailored to my client's specific needs. Some of the approaches I use include EMDR, mindfulness, DBT, CBT, and more. Each person is unique in their story and therefore the approach I use with each client varies based on what works best for them.
My focus
I help people overcome trauma, anxiety, OCD, low self-esteem, depression, and more. I have extensive training in treating trauma and PTSD and therefore consider this one of my specialty areas.
My communication style
In my sessions, I strive to provide a warm and non-judgmental atmosphere. I emphasize collaboration in my sessions; you are the one in the driver’s seat on your way to wellness, and I am here to be your guide. I feel that counseling should be a welcoming and nurturing environment where you can be your true self and express yourself freely. I believe that cultivating this environment in counseling lays the groundwork to start the healing process.
My goals for you
Setting goals typically happens in the first session. Goals are based on what you would like to achieve in counseling and what you are hoping to gain through the process. We periodically check in on these goals throughout therapy to see if you feel we are making progress toward these goals or if they need to be changed or modified.
My first session with you
In our first session together, my goal is to get to know you and learn how I can help you. We will briefly go through some of your history, discuss what brought you to counseling, and set goals based on what you would like to accomplish in counseling. The first session can bring up some nerves - which is totally normal! You can share as much or as little as you would like, based on your comfort level and your own pace.
