My name is Latonia Ambush, and I am a Licensed Mental Health Counselor. I believe that the events you experienced in your past impact the way you live your life today. My approach is to help you gain insight into repeating patterns, ways of thinking, and ways of coping that are preventing you from moving forward and meeting your goals. I provide therapy to men, women, and teens.
My approach
I work from a trauma-focused approach. I am eclectic and utilize interventions from Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Narrative Therapy, Psychodynamic, and Bodywork interventions.
My focus
I work with men, women, and teens from diverse backgrounds. I typically see clients who struggle with depression, anxiety, grief & loss, spirituality, issues with adjustment, and trauma.
My communication style
I work from a relational style. I am interactive in my sessions with clients and like to keep them actively engaged within the therapy process. As a therapist, it is important for me to relate genuinely with my clients. I have a sense of humor and can be direct in my approach when addressing issues. I ask questions when I need to clarify things and welcome feedback.
My journey to mental healthcare
I have seen the impact of trauma on the lives of people within various the spheres of society. Trauma not only impacts the individual but is intergenerational. For years I knew that I wanted to help bring healing to others through the vehicle of counseling. Those who were hurt within the context of a relationship will find it beneficial to heal within the confines of a safe relationship. It is rewarding to see people grow!
My goals for you
Clients should play an active role in the therapy process. I will work collaboratively with clients to help them identify specific goals that they want to target in their work with me. I will provide recommendations to clients but they have the freedom to address the areas in their lives that are the most comfortable for them.
My first session with you
My first session with you will consist of establishing a good therapy relationship and we will work together to complete a biopsychosocial assessment. I will ask you questions about your goals for therapy, identify your current ways of coping, explore your childhood experiences, and learn about your relational dynamics.
