I am Shereka S. Shaw, a Licensed Professional Counselor in the state of Georgia who has over 10 years of experience working with those who struggle with managing their emotions due to depression, anxiety, substance abuse, and experienced traumatic events, also providing assistance to their families. I have also worked with people with substance abuse history, mood disorders, and post-traumatic stress disorder.
My approach
I often utilize mindfulness and spiritual-based approaches, as well as dialectical behavioral, cognitive behavioral, and solution-focused approaches to therapy, always maintaining the creativity, flexibility, and awareness necessary to best meet the needs of every unique individual and couple.
My focus
I typically work with clients who are struggling to manage depressive and anxiety-related symptoms that stem from various reasons, though most are trauma related.
My communication style
I like to create the comfort of talking to a friend, though in an open and safe space. I can provide empathy, comedy, and realness.
My journey to mental healthcare
I wanted to become a therapist because I love helping people. I am a great listener and am very empathetic. I enjoy looking at situations from all perspectives and providing advice that is sound and encouraging. I use my own experiences to assist in providing steps and answers to various situations.
My goals for you
My goal is always to find and use intriguing and creative ways to assist you in connecting the puzzle pieces of your life as you strive to feel whole. My desire is for open and honest dialogue because being honest about hurt and pain is the only way to heal from it.
My first session with you
A first session with me gives you the opportunity to learn more about me and my style of work. You will gain insight into the therapeutic process and answer a lot of questions about you and your treatment needs.
