Aloha, my name is Kori Kiesel-Weatherford. I have been a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) for over 16 years and a Social Worker for 22 years. I am also a Board Certified Diplomate of Clinical Social Worker (BCD). I approach therapy as a collaborative effort to move you to health and meet your mental health goals. I have focused my clinical practice on the treatment of military trauma, grief, anxiety, depression, transitional life stressors to include relationship and employment stressors. This provider resides in Hawaii.
My approach
I focus primarily on Cognitive Behavioral Therapy. Our perspective and approach to life are rooted in our thoughts and beliefs. At times we may have a history of skewed beliefs and patterns of functioning that affect our emotions and lenses of how we view our lives, relationships, and approaches to challenges.
My focus
I have spent the last decade focusing primarily on military trauma related to deployments and military service. I have also specialized in the treatment of anxiety, depression, and other life stressors such as relationships, work stress, and family dynamic stressors.
My communication style
I create a safe and accepting environment so that you feel comfortable. It is an honor to share this journey to health with you. I believe in bringing humor and real-life experience and skills to this partnership.
My journey to mental healthcare
I grew up in Hawaii in a culture that is rooted in caring for others. I knew at an early age that I wanted to dedicate my life to serving others. I appreciate the gravity of having a person to walk alongside you in sharing some of the hardest experiences in life with no judgment. It is the most rewarding experience to see a patient experience emotional release from experiences that no longer serve a purpose for them.
My goals for you
Setting goals and expectations is essential in therapy. We will develop goals based on your desired outcomes and they'll be reviewed every session to ensure there is progress in obtaining the skills needed to be emotionally healthy.
My first session with you
Our first session will be spent identifying what concerns brought you into therapy. I'd like to get to know you including learning about your childhood, past traumas, and patterns of functioning. We also spend some time building rapport, setting goals, and discussing different treatment modalities to target your behavioral health needs. I am a firm believer in assigning homework between appointments so that your growth is perpetuated and maintained.
