Aloha! My name is Ky Romero, LMHC. I provide a client-centered, strengths-based & humanistic approach to therapy. I understand seeking help can be daunting, but you are brave for doing so! This provider resides in Hawaii.
My approach
I specialize in client-centered, humanistic, & strength-based therapy. I like to apply both CBT & EMDR techniques (when appropriate). I am also familiar with psychodynamic theory. I provide a laid-back approach, while taking your concerns seriously.
My focus
I currently work predominantly with LGBTQIA+ folx, as well as people struggling with depression, trauma, and anxiety. I have a wide range of experience, to include working with issues such as kink/non-monogamy, forensics, crisis, trauma, and children/adolescents.
My communication style
My approach is laid-back, so that you don't feel pressured or uncomfortable during our sessions. I take your concerns seriously while removing the power differential that can sometimes exist between client and therapist. I want my clients to feel safe in session as we build a therapeutic relationship. Previous client feedback has indicated an appreciation for my low-stress approach and expertise in service areas.
My journey to mental healthcare
I graduated high school early with the dream of becoming a therapist because I had had some lackluster ones as I was growing up. I wanted to help make therapy less daunting and more accessible, especially to vulnerable communities. My career motivation is hearing positive client outcomes and the fact that the psychology field is always changing, always something new to learn.
My goals for you
Goal setting should be collaborative. While you may not have a specific one when you first come to session, we can work together to find one that fits your needs. I also like to track client progress graphically, so we can see visually how you are progressing.
My first session with you
A first session with me is like a general intake. I'll ask questions about your background, like family, medical/mental health, education, etc. We'll also discuss goals and leave the floor open for you to ask any questions or voice any concerns you may have.
