Hi. My name is Dr. Tina Lott. I am a Licensed Clinical Professional Counselor as well as a Certified Alcohol & other Drug Counselor. I hold a BC-TMH certification that helps speak to my ability to provide quality services via Telehealth. In addition, I serve as a Board Director for NBCC's CCE Board. I am passionate about working with clients to help them reach their most optimal selves. My focus area of practice is working with those who have persistent mental health conditions and who desire to learn how to cope with symptoms to live their best lives.
My approach
My approach to counseling starts with where the client feels they are experiencing the most distress. I believe that working with the client to address that area first will lead to indirect relief of stress in other areas of their lives. My theoretical approach is Rational Emotive Behavioral Therapy (REBT).
My focus
I typically work with clients who are experiencing ongoing anxiety, depression, relationship issues, identity issues, and problems related to self-esteem. The majority of my work has been with clients who are diagnosed with severe and persistent mental health conditions. In addition, dismantling stigma is one of my areas of research as the stigma associated with mental health often exacerbates symptoms.
My communication style
Therapy should be a safe place. I help to create that environment with the client by being authentic in my approach and encouraging clients to show up as they are as well. Working with me does not feel like work. It feels like a place and time where clients can be your 100% self unapologetically. In the times when the feelings and thoughts become uncomfortable, I am right there with the client, supporting them along the way.
My journey to mental healthcare
My desire to become a therapist stems from my own dysfunctional childhood. I did not understand a lot of what was happening around me and I became curious to understand so I embarked on a journey to do just that... So here I am.
My goals for you
I use the SMART goal approach. I assess for progress each session.
My first session with you
The first session feels like a conversation more than an intake assessment. I will spend time getting to know the client and what brought them to counseling. I then determine how best I can use my skills to help support the change that is needed.
