My name is Cristy Carter and I am a Licensed Professional Clinical Counselor (LPCC) and a Certified Autism Spectrum Disorder Clinical Specialist (CSDCS). I work with adults via telehealth and specialize in anxiety, addiction, and trauma. I utilize several treatment methodologies, primarily Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Motivational Interviewing, and Solution Focus.
My approach
I tailor my approach to treatment based on the needs of the client. I have experiences with many approaches and clients have various needs which are addressed in different ways. I tend to utilize Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Motivational Interviewing, and Solution Focus. I have utilized Accelerated Resolution Therapy for many clients, as I have basic certification in this. I may recommend this type of therapy for in person.
My focus
I have extensive experience working with individuals who are suffering from anxiety, panic, substance use disorders, and trauma.
My communication style
I have a chameleon like personality. If a client prefers a professional experience, I follow suit. If a client prefers a laid back, loose experience, I provide this as well.
My journey to mental healthcare
I attempted nursing school but my passion awakened while taking an abnormal psychology class. It took me some time to get my bachelor's degree, quitting and returning back to school several times. Life happened, many things occurred, challenges arose, and my journey found me sitting in a rehab facility. While in treatment, I decided that helping others is what I wanted to do. I returned to school for my master's degree in Clinical Mental Health Counseling and have since gained quite a few certifications along the way. I have since become a Clinical Program Director and maintain this position as well.
My goals for you
I will always ask a client what their goals are. There may be times when it's difficult to identify a goal when we are feeling chaos. So, I will use the client's words to help us identify goals together.
My first session with you
During our first session together, I seek to understand the client's world as they are experiencing it in the moment. The client leads the way and I follow. We may identify goals or we may spend the full time processing.
