My name is Dawn Blake, and I’m a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW). I tend to take a relaxed approach to therapy, meeting you where you find yourself currently. When it comes to focus areas of practice, I use a wide variety - Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Dialectical Behavioral Therapy, Strengths - Based / Solution - Focused, and Narrative Therapy - I consider myself to have an eclectic style, and use what I have at my disposal.
My approach
My approach varies to the needs of my clients, but I prefer to use Dialectical Behavioral Therapy, as well as Strengths - Based / Solution Focused. Clients present with different needs, so the treatment can’t be ‘one size fits all’.
My focus
I work well with a variety of ages and populations, from children to the elderly, to those struggling with co-occurring disorders and life changes, anxiety and schizophrenia. All are welcome.
My communication style
I would say I tend to cultivate the sessions based on the client - I meet clients where they’re at in their lives and attempt to match my tone to what they’re most comfortable with, in order to produce meaningful conversation. My sessions are a judgment-free zone, and I want my clients to be as comfortable as possible during our sessions in order to help them move forward with their lives.
My journey to mental healthcare
Originally I saw myself in the criminal justice field, but decided to branch off into mental health instead - which eventually led me into entering the field of Social Work and being a clinician. I enjoy talking to people and helping them realize their own potential, even if they can't see it yet.
My goals for you
I ask the client what they want to get out of sessions, and what they’d like to work on - therapy is their time, and they have the most knowledge of what they want to accomplish.
My first session with you
A relaxed atmosphere where the clients are more than welcome to ask questions and we get to know each other for potential sessions to follow.
