Not currently accepting patients

Hi there, I'm Supriya!

Hi, I am Supriya Shanti, LICSW/LCSW. I have a heart-centered, client-focused approach and provide the best therapy for anxiety, grief, relational trauma, recovering after a break up or toxic relationship, overcoming compassion fatigue, self-esteem, confidence, shifting negative thoughts and beliefs, coming out, exploring sexuality, and being/accepting yourself in the face of familial and social constraints.

My approach

Modalities I use are Internal Family Systems, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Emotional Freedom Technique, HeartMath, Somatic, and Neuro-Linguistic Programming. I also hold space for you to step into so that you can share and process while I listen, give support, guidance, feedback, and validation of your feelings.

My focus

I specialize in working with the 2SLGBTQIAP+ community and allies. Specifically I enjoy working with womxn, non-binary, gender-fluid, queer, lesbians, allies.

My communication style

I meet clients where they are, honor their pace, and work provide space to meet their goals. I am flexible, non-structured, casual and fluid. I meet clients with compassion having the ability to create a safe and comfortable setting to explore the deeper parts of self for healing and transformation. Clients tell me they appreciate my patience, openness, and ability to help them overcome challenges and feel empowered.

My journey to mental healthcare

I overcame the abuse and trauma that I grew up with through therapy, so I knew for a long time that I wanted to become a therapist. When I look back I know that I could have easily ended up on a very different path than where I am now and I attribute it greatly to the therapists I've worked with since I was a young adult. I have done a lot of therapy and healing on myself and because I've healed so much I live in such an empowered way, I know others can do it too. I am super good at being a therapist - I hold space well for others and meet them where they are, helping them gradually get to the next place. I don't want anyone becoming dependent on me - I am very much about helping them find the power within themselves to be strong and live the life they want. And I'm okay with supporting them until they get there. I believe in the power of therapy because of my own journey and life.

My goals for you

In the initial session, I ask clients what their goals are for therapy and together we create action steps toward reaching the goals. My approach is more spiral than linear; meaning rather than having each session be structured toward the goals, I allow space for the client to show up in a session with whatever they are present to that day or week, and trust that as we work on what they show up with it will have a ripple effect that will also touch their goals. That said, I always keep the goals in mind as well, and will specifically circle back to them so that we are meeting the client's desires. I will remind the client of their goals and give them the option to stay with that or make adjustments over time as they progress in therapy.

My first session with you

The initial session includes time for the client to speak about what is going on with them recently as well as in the past, give them a chance to speak about what they hope to get from being in therapy, and create goals with action steps. I always let clients know they don't have to share everything in the initial session, but only what they feel comfortable with because as we work together they will have the chance to share more. I also speak about my approach and explain any models that they are unfamiliar with and give clients an opportunity to ask me questions to clarify my experience, professional beliefs, and approach.
