Hi there, I'm Carrie!

Greetings, my name is Carrie Fuller and I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker, LCSW-R in New York State. I know that my role in rendering counseling to clients is to serve as a partner in enhancing their daily lives, rendering support, and promoting overall wellness. I approach therapy and counseling as an art and no one should feel that their experience is like a cookie cutter, same message, same technique, similar outcomes. Counseling has to be unique and client-centered. I have been in the field of counseling for a number of years, spanning two decades. My special focus areas are Depression and Mood Disorders, Anxiety, Women's Issues, Bereavement and Grief, Trauma, and Attention Deficit Disorders.

My approach

My approach to providing therapy is client-centered and it is always driven by goals directly established by my clients within the therapeutic relationship. I respect and regard each client from the level that they are at in our session. I am most proficient and effective with CBT (cognitive behavioral therapy ) and DBT (dialectical behavior therapy). I also have a niche for counseling young adults and teens. I have promoted their adjusting to the challenges in their lives for a number of years and I greatly enjoy seeing their unique transformation.

My focus

I have worked in my career with a diverse array of clients, different ages, life experiences, cultural, and socio-economic backgrounds. I am skilled in individual, family and couples counseling. I typically work with women as they may find a need to connect with a therapist who meets this requirement. as it may just feel more relevant and safe. I do not in any way box myself in. I know that skill outweighs any other barrier that may present itself in engaging and solidifying a therapy connection.

My communication style

My tone is very mellow, welcoming and direct. I am nurturing and I usually begin each session with a reassuring statement directed to my client so that they feel safe, comfortable, and respected. I am assertive. I also employ humor in my style as it is the best medicine. Hopefully, in session, clients feel safe and comfortable like a seat in a favorite chair. I extend myself as an active listener, anchor, and cheer squad to accomplish the set goals a client identifies and strives to attain in their sessions.

My journey to mental healthcare

I did not know I would become a therapist and counselor. The career kind of chose me. I had a desire to be a social change agent and a catalyst to promote the well-being of others. Other careers crossed my mind but I was not excited when I recognized that the persons I admired the most were and are Social Workers. I have made an outstanding career choice and I will build on the legacy that precedes me.

My goals for you

I am direct and assist each client with naming their expectations for counseling. The strategy is to always acknowledge that the progress and outcomes are client driven. They drive the ship towards therapeutic growth and goal attainment. I come along to only assist in the journey.

My first session with you

A client should expect maturity and honest communication. They should expect a highly trained and skilled clinician. They should be happy to know that they are being heard and their goals attended to.
