I am Dawn Knight, a licensed mental health counselor (LMHC). My approach is person-centered, collaborative, and strength-based. My focus areas are individuals dealing with depression, anxiety, PTSD, and other diagnoses that may cause them to feel stuck overcoming and managing certain areas in their life.
My approach
The most common approaches that are used are person-centered, brief, solution-focused, and strength-based. Still, I always tailor my approach to the individual to create a unique experience in treatment.
My focus
The types of clients I usually provide treatment to are high-functioning adults who have struggles with depression, anxiety, substance use, and PTSD.
My communication style
As a therapist, my aim is to create a warm, safe, and non-judgmental environment where the client can feel comfortable disclosing parts of themselves they do not typically share with others, which will allow them to invest in their treatment. My goal is for clients to feel heard and understood as well as to get a unique therapeutic experience.
My journey to mental healthcare
I became attracted to becoming s therapist because I have always been passionate about helping people. I always knew the importance and value of people having someone who genuinely listened and cared to help. What drives me to do the work is watching clients choose to be vulnerable, discussing their most uncomfortable moments as they want to work on doing the work to heal, and seeing clients make decisions to apply the work to their everyday lives and make a change.
My goals for you
I listen to my clients disclose areas of struggle as well as collaborate with them on which goals they would like to work on.
My first session with you
Clients should expect to discuss what brought them to therapy, as well as their family, therapeutic, and relationship history. We will also discuss what goals they would like to work on.
