Hi there, I'm Melissa!

Hi, my name is Melissa Taylor. I am licensed in In TN as a Professional Counselor / Mental Health Service Provider. I am also licensed in VT as a Clinical Mental Health Counselor as well as a Drug & Alcohol Counselor.

My approach

In therapy, it’s essential to recognize that you are the expert on yourself. Your unique insights and self-awareness guide the therapeutic process. The approach we take is tailored to your preferences, ensuring a collaborative and empowering journey towards growth and well-being. The most common theoretical approached used: 1. Cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT): This approach focuses on identifying and changing negative thought patterns and behaviors that contribute to psychological distress. 2. Solution-focused brief therapy: This approach focuses on identifying and building upon an individual's strengths and resources, rather than dwelling on problems or past experiences. 3. Humanistic therapy: This approach emphasizes personal growth, self-awareness, and the importance of the present moment in therapy.

My focus

Therapy offers a secure and empathetic environment for individuals grappling with a diverse array of conditions, be it a anxiety, depression, trauma, relationship dynamics, behavioral disorders, addiction, managing stress management, self-esteem concerns or life transitions. My commitment is to extend unwavering support, deep understanding and customized strategies to guide you through and overcome the challenges you’re currently facing.

My communication style

In session, my communication style is centered around creating a safe and confidential space where you can freely share your experiences without the fear of judgment or exploitation. I prioritize confidentiality to ensure your privacy. To gain a deeper understanding of your life circumstances, I use reflective listening and ask thought-provoking questions to encourage self-reflection and insight. Additionally, I may gently challenge perspectives or assumptions, fostering an environment where you can consider alternative viewpoints or behaviors. This approach is designed to support you on your journey of self-discovery and growth.

My journey to mental healthcare

My aspiration to become a therapist took root as a young adult when I personally faced the repercussions of stereotypical views and judgement, experiences that often lead people to surrender. These experiences cultivated resilience, empathy, and a profound understanding of social biases. My journey has deepened my commitment to empowering individuals to embrace their full petechial and pursue their dreams, all while actively breaking down stereotypes and supporting others through adversity. This path has significantly enhanced my ability to empathize with diverse perspectives, enabling me to provide impactful guidance.

My goals for you

While certain conditions may be shared among individuals, the unique aspects of your experience are at the forefront of our sessions. My goal is to comprehensively grasp the specific challenges your life presents and collaboratively work towards establishing realistic and achievable goals. These goals act as a roadmap, guiding our focus during our sessions and providing a tangible means to measure and celebrate your progress along the way.

My first session with you

Your first session is called an intake session. This is where I will be asking a series of questions to gain some background information and we can begin establishing a collaborative and supportive relationship. We will discuss your reasons for seeking therapy, explore your thoughts and feelings, and collaboratively set goals. Additionally, you may begin to identify and challenge any negative thought patterns contributing to your concerns, laying the foundation for the therapeutic process ahead.
