Danielle Payne is a licensed Clinical Mental Health Counselor, having earned a Master of Science in counseling from Johnson & Wales University in Rhode Island. Danielle has over ten years of experience in the mental health field, and over five years as a licensed therapist. Danielle earned a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology and a minor in Environmental Science from the University of New England in Maine. She enjoyed studying the healing effects that nature has on the human psyche.
My approach
Several of the modalities she uses include Brain Spotting, Trauma-Focused CBT, SMART Recovery as well as a Safe Zone Certification working with the LGBTQ+ population. She believes these forms of therapy create a space for students to access negative memories and feelings then release them, allowing the brain and body to heal.
My focus
Danielle has worked with clients ranged from 3-75 years old. However, the last 5 years have mainly been with adolescents and young adults. Anxiety, depression, light to moderate substance use, trauma, adoption, attachment, relationships with self and others, communication and family dynamics are a few of the areas she has a background in.
My communication style
She strives to provide a warm and comfortable environment for all her clients. She's been told that working with her is like "A comforting arm around you while being guided in the direction you want/need to go in".
My journey to mental healthcare
Being a therapist runs in her blood. She has many family members who are also therapists. She is drawn to helping and supporting people to the best of her ability.
My goals for you
Her goal (no pun intended) is to set you up for success. She utilizes SMART goals that allow you to keep the mindset moving forward, help with accountability and timing, and let you know that you are accomplishing what you set out to accomplish.
My first session with you
The first session is all about getting to know each other. She will have specific questions geared to learning more about you and your needs. You will set goals for moving forward and will check in on the goals each week. She is also a fan of giving out homework assignments so the therapy can continue throughout the week.
