If you seek a mental health provider who puts you first, and who would not judge you but would provide a non-threatening environment for self-expression, self-reflection, and self-acceptance, then look no further for you are in the right place. I strive to create a warm and empathetic environment where my clients feel safe enough to explore, question, and process life circumstances. I am truly passionate about helping others increase their self-awareness, and love being a part of a client’s journey to health and happiness as they discover their most authentic self. My name is Moronke Aboyewa, and I am a Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (PMHNP) since 2016. I am based in Maryland but work with clients across multiple states, including Virginia via a HIPAA-protected telehealth platform.

Apply supportive, psychodynamic, cognitive, behavioral, and other evidence-based psychotherapies along with medication management. Use individualized outcome measures to evaluate psychiatric care and modify treatment plans based on the client’s outcome. My communication style
I want clients to feel heard when talking with me; therefore, I practice active listening by not cutting into their conversation at a critical point or missing something important during the session. Clients are allowed to explore all their thoughts and feelings; My communication style aims to foster healthier communication and NP-client relationships. I encourage my clients to take responsibility for the direction of the session and I avoid the use of close-ended questions.
My journey to mental healthcare
I came into psychiatric nursing because I wanted to give back to a profession that helped me and my siblings to give our father a most dignified life even as he battled Alzheimer’s disease. His last days were filled with so much love and care by the staff of the Memory Care Facility he lived so much that he passed on as a happy man despite his mental health challenges. I love the difference I have made through the opportunity of caring for my clients as a psychiatric nurse practitioner. It has been such a rewarding experience!
My goals for you
My approach to goal setting is a collaborative effort involving the patient, family (as applicable), provider, and other team members to help the client identify their goals based on current client concerns, behaviors, and what the client aims to achieve with treatment. I believe that both Immediate and future goals should be directed at problem resolution. We will maintain ongoing response appraisal to determine if goals are being met.
My first session with you
At the first session, the client should expect to come into a relaxing and non-judgmental milieu. The focus will be to build a therapeutic alliance, stay engaged with the client, and allow for verbalization of feelings and their goals for seeking psychiatric treatment at this time. Since this is an initial psychiatric evaluation, a psychiatric diagnosis will be made based on history, presenting signs and symptoms, and the use of related diagnostic and screening tools. If applicable review diagnostic and laboratory findings. After disclosing a diagnosis(es), will initiate shared decision-making practice to empower patients by inviting them to consider the pros and cons of different treatment options, including no treatment. We will set an expectation of treatment.
