Hello! My name is Kayla Veness and I am a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist in the state of Wisconsin. My approach is gentle yet direct within session so that my clients can feel validated and reach their personal mental health goals. I find great joy working with a variety of clients and I especially enjoy working with couples or adult women.
My approach
While I have a number of therapeutic approaches available to me and my clients (Narrative, Solution Focused, CBT), I strongly believe that the most important aspect of psychotherapy is the relationship between therapist and client.
My focus
Throughout my professional career I have worked with clients as young as 4 years old and as old as 85 years old. I specialized in adolescents, families, couples and young adults. I am comfortable treating all conditions.
My communication style
I am direct in communication throughout session and do so with tact and empathy towards my clients. My clients feel respected and cared for within session while also recognizing areas of growth for them.
My journey to mental healthcare
I, like many others, grew up in a dysfunctional and broken home. I was pre-veterinary medicine in college with an equine emphasis when I decided I needed a change and found EAGALA. My life's goal was to open an equine therapy program throughout my graduate school years. I accomplished this within 3 months of graduation. Since then, I have practiced in a wide variety of environments including intensive in-home family therapy, couples therapy via telehealth, adolescent male residential treatment center and traditional outpatient therapy offices in addition to telehealth services.
My goals for you
Goal setting is a joint effort within my session between my clients and myself. While my clients bring their expertise of their own lives and mental health goals, I am here to word them in such a way that we can have concrete and measurable steps to reach those goals together.
My first session with you
During a first session, the goal is to begin building our therapeutic relationship as well as completing an initial assessment to gain a better understanding of your background and to assist in identifying underlying concerns.
