My name is Chris Carmichael and I am an LCSW with decades of experience working with clients managing anxiety, depression and interpersonal relationships. I have worked one on one with clients in a number of environments including telehealth therapy, community mental health, mentoring and intensive milieu settings.
My approach
I primarily engage clients through a humanistic perspective that validates the client's unique life experience and I collaboratively explore the narrative the client lives by.
My focus
I have worked with a wide range of clients from varied social, economic and ethnic backgrounds. Although primarily treating clients with anxiety and depression, I also have significant experience working with clients dealing with PTSD, men's issues, spirituality, racial identity and existential themes.
My communication style
I am an active listener who communicates in a calm, non-judgmental tone that seeks to find the strengths and virtue in the clients I works with.
My journey to mental healthcare
I have spent over a decade in the non profit sector working with foster youth and their families. Additionally, I have experience working in intensive mental health settings for adults with psychotic symptoms, Clinical Case Management for transitional age youth seeking housing opportunities and supporting reunification of families through Child Protective Services. I am driven by a desire to help individuals find their strengths and to support positive changes in their lives.
My first session with you
In the first session, I will attempt to understand what issues my client is facing and how the issues are impacting their well being. Although the first session includes a general collection of information related to the client's symptoms and history, I am also intently focused on what the client's desired outcomes are, their treatment goals and how the client sees therapy benefitting their life.
