My name is Obed Romero. I am a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist (LMFT). In a nutshell, this is how I sum up the work I do: I am very passionate about providing a safe, empathic, and validating space for clients to explore their inner worlds while also teaching therapeutic skills to help manage a variety of difficulties! I specialize in and have years of experience working with adults diagnosed with anxiety disorders, depressive disorders, and anger-related disorders. I have also received training in couples therapy as well!
My approach
My therapeutic approaches in providing mental health services to adult individuals include Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), self-compassion-focused, attachment-informed, and trauma-informed interventions. I utilize Emotion-Focused Therapy (EFT). I have also been trained in Motivational Interviewing (MI) and in providing sleep therapy interventions through the UC Berkley sleep team.
My focus
I specialize in and have years of experience working with adult individuals diagnosed with anxiety disorders, depressive disorders, anger-related disorders, as well as a variety of other difficulties (e.g., self-esteem concerns, managing stress, grief, etc). I am also very passionate about working with underserved populations like the Hispanic/Latino population.
My communication style
In working with individuals, I am all about providing a safe, empathic, and validating space to explore emotions while also teaching therapeutic skills in managing various emotional difficulties. You can certainly expect humor, patience, authenticity, and a nonjudgmental stance when working with me!
My journey to mental healthcare
As a child and young adult, I struggled with anxiety and depression myself. Growing up, I also had a natural interest in the mental health field. So, I decided to pursue a career as a mental health clinician in an effort to best aid myself and others. Through my own positive mental health journey, my empathy and compassion for the emotional pain of others sharpened. I felt I was able to connect to the emotional difficulties of others on a deeper level. Now, my focus is aimed at alleviating the emotional suffering of others while also helping to cultivate meaningful relationships and a meaningful life.
My goals for you
With individuals, I aim to find values that are meaningful to my clients' lives. In finding and defining their values, there is usually a goal to be found and worked on. From there, we can break down those goals into realistic and obtainable methods.
My first session with you
Clients can expect a lot of empathic and nonjudgmental questioning surrounding their life and current difficulties. My hope is that clients feel a general sense of my authenticity as well. And then, evaluate if I am a good fit for them!
