Hi there, I'm LaKeina!

My name is LaKeina Ferguson you can call me Keina. My approach to therapy is client-centered meaning you’re in charge. My areas of practice are substance abuse, depression, anxiety, and those who are suffering from low self-esteem and self-worth. I have a whole being philosophy because I truly believe that we have to take care of all of ourselves (mental, emotional, physical, and spiritual) if we want to be completely whole.

My approach

My therapeutic approach is primarily Humanistic as I believe that as human beings, we are each unique and should be valued. I have a positive outlook on life, and it is my pleasure to support others in reaching their full potential by overcoming any emotional or mental barriers.

My focus

I work with clients who experienced trauma as children and as adults, domestic violence victims /perpetrators, substance abuse, anxiety, mood disorders, autism, self-harm, and suicidal ideation. I also work with families, and couples and provide Christian counseling.

My communication style

I demonstrate active listening during sessions. Meaning as you communicate, I will reflect on what you are saying. I also practice reflective listening which includes not jumping to assumptions and asking questions for clarity.

My journey to mental healthcare

I have always been curious about human behavior and the nature vs. nurture concept. I grew up in an environment and in a way that statistically, my life could have been un-filling. I acknowledge that based on my life experiences, I could have made choices that could have very well led to ongoing adverse consequences. However, my desire to beat the odds led me on a path to healing and emotional restoration. I want to support you in accomplishing the same thing.

My goals for you

Goal setting is a partnership. I approach goal setting by asking clients what they would like to accomplish over the course of therapy. I will then support you with identifying the necessary steps to accomplish your goals (within a reasonable time frame).

My first session with you

During our first session, I will ask you relevant questions to get to know you. Common questions will also include: why you are seeking therapy and what you would like to accomplish over the course of therapy. I will also gather pertinent information such as family, psychiatric history, and other general information needed to develop your treatment plan.
