My name is Sonia Vasquez, I am a licensed clinical social worker (LCSW). I am a client-centered therapist and focus on my client's strengths. Typically, I have been able to assist clients who struggle with anxiety, depression, family and/or work conflicts, end of life, and chronic illness.
My approach
I utilize a strengths-based/client-centered approach and incorporate cognitive behavioral therapy.
My focus
In the past 5-10 years I have worked with adults whose ages range from 18 - 90, transitional-age youth, adults, and older adults needing support through life changes, chronic illness, and end-of-life.
My communication style
I work with my clients to create an open and safe environment where thoughts and feelings can be shared without fear of judgment. When communicating with clients, I am relaxed and have a very easygoing style. I allow clients to express themselves in ways they feel comfortable.
My journey to mental healthcare
Social work has always been an interest or way of life. My parents were the first to be called when family or friends needed help. I have seen several family members and close friends go through life struggles and wished they had more professional support in their lives. Different job opportunities kept teaching me more and more about helping others cope with life. I decided I wanted to do this as my career and so went back to school for my Master's degree and eventually became a licensed clinical social worker. That was a journey in itself! I enjoy meeting people and listening to them share their stories and if I can be of help, then I am always happy to provide support and resources. Being a social worker, it really is a 24/7 role, which I love!
My goals for you
Typically in the first and second sessions, together we explore and set goals for treatment.
My first session with you
I want to get to know you as a person and so I will ask you to share a bit about yourself, what you are comfortable sharing to start and go into current concerns.
