Hi there, I'm Michael!

I am a licensed Marriage and Family Therapist, Clinical Fellow, and long-time member of the American Association of Marriage and Family Therapists. I specialize in individual, couples, and family psychotherapy and have over 25 years of clinical experience as a Behavior Consulting and Psychotherapist working with a broad range of clients and psychotherapy areas.

My approach

I offer compassionate, effective, and science-based psychotherapy in a supportive and collaborative environment to reduce symptoms, improve quality of life, and promote personal growth. I work closely with my clients to develop a personalized treatment plan with clear and specific goals.

My focus

Among my areas of expertise are Depression and Anxiety disorders, Trauma, Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD), Attention Deficit Hyper Activities (ADHD), Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD), Grief counseling, issues related to parenting strategies, relationship difficulties, and families engaged in high-conflict divorce. I also work with populations with Intellectual and developmental disabilities and provide services for their families.

My communication style

I practice cultural humility and create a safe space to explore how our identity and history can impact our outlook and well-being. I provide psychotherapy in English, Kurdish, and Farsi (Persian), and have familiarity with multiple other languages and cultures, such as Arabic, Azari/Turkish, and Danish.

My journey to mental healthcare

As someone with lived experience of immigration and displacement, I'm acutely sensitive to the needs of immigrants and their unique challenges. This personal experience has shaped my journey to mental healthcare and fuels my dedication to supporting clients navigating cultural challenges and life transitions.

My goals for you

My goal is to provide you with a supportive therapeutic environment where you feel heard, understood, and empowered. Together we will work to reduce distressing symptoms, build coping skills, gain new insights and perspectives, and make meaningful positive changes to enhance your overall well-being and quality of life.

My first session with you

In our first session, we will discuss what brings you to therapy and collaborate to understand your unique needs, challenges, and aspirations. This will allow us to establish a strong therapeutic alliance and develop a personalized treatment plan aligned with your specific goals. You can expect a warm, non-judgmental space to share your story and begin your journey toward growth and healing.
