My name is Kristy Messier, I am a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) as well as a Licensed Alcohol and Drug Counselor (LADC). My approach to therapy is to meet the person where they are at; person centered. I focus on areas such as addiction, depression, anxiety, family and/or relationship issues and overall daily stressors that you may encounter.
My approach
My approach to therapy is person-centered. People are all in various stages of change and regardless of where they are, the most important thing is that you are reaching out for help and I am here to offer empathy, compassion and understanding, but also assist in processing emotions and situations and help to develop strategies to cope. I lean towards CBT, DBT and Reality Therapy and like to initially focus on the present and what is getting in your way today.
My focus
I have had the opportunity to work with such a diverse population of clients and enjoy working with people 18+. My primary area of expertise is addiction, however, I also work with individuals dealing with anxiety, depression, relationship issues, family discord & just the day to day that life throws at you.
My communication style
While in therapy, you will deal with some uncomfortable feelings and I try to make it as enjoyable as possible. I'm down to earth, love to laugh, but also encourage you to do the work. After all, you are in charge of your own well-being, I'm here to provide support, strategies, encourage you, and to listen.
My journey to mental healthcare
There is a saying that therapists are in this field because they can identify with their patients and that holds true for me. I was lucky enough to have a wonderful therapist to help me and I strive to do the same for others.
My goals for you
I believe that goal setting is an important aspect in life and believe that it is important to set goals while in therapy. I believe that goals must be set by you, however, I am here to help with identifying your immediate needs. Goals are ongoing, meaning, once one is achieved, another is set, until you achieve all that you have set out to.
My first session with you
In our first session, I like to get to know you. We will have a conversation covering various topics so that I can get an understanding of who you are, what your experiences have been and what you hope to achieve.
