Annette Howard

My name is Annette Howard and I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker based in Florida and working remotely with clients in Florida and North Carolina via telehealth. I work with adults and specialize in stress, anxiety, and grief/loss, using techniques of Cognitive Behavioral Therapy and Solution-Focused Brief Therapy to help my clients confront those negative thoughts and start feeling better.

My approach

My approach to therapy varies based on the needs of each client. I most often use Cognitive Behavioral Therapy and Solution-Focused Brief Therapy, as both modalities help me and the client build a shared understanding of the problem, and allow us to work together to make progress toward their goals and journey path.

My focus

I have found that my approach and skills are a good fit for adults who may be dealing with challenges of life transitions. This often shows up in the form of anxiety, depression, stress, and relationship conflicts. I work to help my clients navigate these transition periods and build skills to allow them to feel better about themselves and develop a more positive self-image.

My communication style

I offer empathy, compassion, and active listening. I want my clients to feel comfortable talking with me about anything, and I pride myself on my ability to offer a judgment-free atmosphere. It is my goal to make you feel safe, validated, and accepted.

My journey to mental healthcare

I decided to become a therapist because I have always wanted to help others. Whether it was volunteer work in high school or being that dependable trusted friend. I have always been easy to talk to and a good listener. I enjoy seeing individuals become the best version of themselves.

My goals for you

My approach to goal setting with clients is individualized and a process. It is all about working together to define what you want to accomplish in our time together. This often starts by building trust between us and getting comfortable with what it means to be in therapy. During our sessions, we will work together to set goals and track your progress.

My first session with you

In our first session, the majority of the time will be me asking lots of questions to better understand what brought you to seek therapy and then decide the most appropriate ways to help you to improve your symptoms. I often use techniques of Cognitive Behavioral Therapy and Solution-Focused Brief Therapy in my practice. We will look at how your thought patterns are affecting your emotions, experiences and help you become more solution-focused.
