My name is Lawrence Goldberg and I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker. Over the past 38 years, I have worked in a variety of settings and have helped individuals with a number of concerns including adjusting to difficult or traumatic experiences.
My approach
I have experience utilizing tools that have been determined to be effective by research including Cognitive Behavioral Therapy and Solutions Focused Brief Therapy. I take the time to truly listen and understand what my clients are facing. Sometimes this involves helping my client clarify and understand their options. We also look at their natural strengths when it comes to working on solutions.
My focus
I work with adults adjusting to major life events such as divorce, career change, conflict at work, health challenges, and those who have been through trauma.
My communication style
I am very casual and never judgemental in my communication style. The last thing I want to do is add to your stress. We all love to see progress but I am aware of my client's comfort zones and realize that people make lasting changes at their own pace.
My journey to mental healthcare
I developed an interest in helping others as a teen and was the one my friends naturally turned to when they had issues. After college, I worked a number of years in management and Human Resources where I helped motivate individuals and aided in resolving work-related concerns. I eventually returned to graduate school for another advanced degree this time in a helping profession and have experienced great satisfaction ever since.
My goals for you
Goal setting is a priority and guides us in the work that we do together. We develop action plans taking into account the "big picture". Above all plans must be realistic and doable.
My first session with you
I will take the time to understand what you have been going through and what you are trying to achieve. I will also inquire about what has helped before and what natural strengths you can draw from.
