Avery May

My name is Avery May and I am licensed in the state of Florida as a Licensed Mental Health Counselor. I make every effort to ensure my clients feel comfortable and supported in such a vulnerable setting.

My approach

I implement solution-focused, CBT, DBT, and EMDR techniques in my counseling sessions.

My focus

I have the most experience working with individuals struggling with symptoms of anxiety, symptoms of depression, family conflict, and trauma. I have worked primarily with young adults and adolescents.

My communication style

I try and make therapy as fun as possible, as I feel it makes each person feel more comfortable in being open with a therapist. If appropriate, I implement humor and want to know all about your interests!

My journey to mental healthcare

Going through therapy myself as an adolescent, I remember how awkward it felt to meet a "stranger" and be expected to reveal all of my feelings to them. I decided in college that I wanted to pursue being a therapist myself so I can help others feel comfortable being in a vulnerable setting and safe sharing aspects of themselves they have never shared before.

My goals for you

I find goal setting is a joint effort. Sometimes a client already knows what their goals are - in this case I would assist with identifying manageable goals in a short-term and long-term facet. If a client does not know what their goals are, then I will be more involved in the entire process.

My first session with you

Clients should expect me to ask them questions pertaining to what brings them to therapy. The purpose of all of those questions is for me to better understand how I can best help you.
