My name is Keyunda Washington, and I'm a Licensed Mental Health Counselor serving clients in the state of Florida. My passion is rooted in working with individuals who may find themselves faced with life challenges of depression, anxiety, and trauma, as well as cultural-specific barriers faced in the BIPOC community. If these are concerns you'd like to address, I'll walk on this journey with you, offering a safe environment we co-create that encourages exploration and growth.
My approach
I enjoy helping others embrace their power. One of the most impactful ways to do that is a change in the thought process because it has such a significant effect on the way we react and the type of emotions we feel. Therefore, my primary way of helping others address the challenges of depression, anxiety, and trauma is through a cognitive and behavioral approach. However, I believe integrating techniques catered to the individual is essential for change. Additionally, I believe our mental health is interconnected with our physical and spiritual well-being. Therefore, my focus is to help others align those elements for improved overall health.
My focus
Typically, I work best with clients who identify as a member of the BIPOC community. Additionally, my clients tend to have a spiritual element, incorporating non-traditional beliefs in to the scientific approach to therapy. I'm most comfortable working in the realm of trauma processing, particularly with racial trauma. Additionally, I fit best with clients who are ready and committed to change, but may need additional support in certain aspects of their healing journey.
My communication style
My communication style ranges from conversationalist to challenging, which translates into feeling both validated and pushed to reach whatever goals are set.
My journey to mental healthcare
I was drawn to the field in high school when I became obsessed, admittedly, with understanding 'why' people act as they do (more so as a substitute for understanding myself). That obsession grew more into a focal point, over the years, to wanting to help others understand their 'why'; even more so to transcend past that point to personal growth and fulfillment.
My goals for you
Goal setting is a combination of goals clients dictate, as well as building rapport and trust where my clients allow me to guide them on setting realistic goals and realistic ways to achieve them.
My first session with you
Clients should expect an open dialogue where I learn about concerns bringing them to therapy, psychoeducation on what the therapeutic process is like (more so for those who may be new to the counseling process), as well as an opportunity to ask questions about my professional background and approach.
