Hi! My name is Alexis Skopos. I have a license in clinical mental health counseling (LMHC). I take a very empathetic approach to therapy. I believe we all experience the world in different ways, and you are the expert in your own life - I am just here along for the ride helping you!
My approach
I have formal training in Trauma Informed Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), the Gottman Method, Prepare-Enrich Couple's Method, and Motivational Interviewing.
My focus
I work a lot with life transitions, grief, addiction, adolescents, anxiety, and depression. I really enjoy working with young adults and those who are searching for their identity. I am a big ally to the LGBTQIA+, body positive, sex worker community.
My communication style
My communication style is direct, but with love. I try to word things as effectively and kindly as possible while also making sure you are hearing and understanding what I mean. I try my best to meet you where you are at and use life applicable scenarios.
My journey to mental healthcare
I knew I wanted to be a therapist from a young age! I had a very colorful childhood and saw my own share of therapists, but I felt like something was missing. It was great to discuss feelings, but I did not feel I was getting the potential help that I needed. I decided to go into the field to be the therapist I always needed growing up! It is cliché, but I truly try to give that experience.
My goals for you
We establish goals in the first session based on what you want to work on. From there, we will create more goals periodically to make sure there are steps being made.
My first session with you
The first session is basically going over guidelines and getting to know you! We will discuss why you're here, the goals you have, ways we can obtain those goals, and a little life history so I know how to best help!
