Hi All, My name is Ilona Korsunsky and I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) currently practicing in the State of Florida. I earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Criminology and Sociology from Rutgers University of New Jersey and later pursued a Master’s Degree in Clinical Social Work, graduating with high honors from Florida International University. Occasionally, life unexpectedly shows up, causing one to become increasingly stressed and overwhelmed. During those trying times, it is so important to have the right support and guidance. My goal is to help you find a safe place where you can open up, be yourself, and start a supportive and healing conversation. Effective therapy can be extremely worthwhile and beneficial for many, and critically necessary for some. I am here to help you manage life’s varied challenges and live a more fulfilled life. I can help you understand what you’re feeling, why, and how to cope in a healthy way, as well as learn needed tools to manage your emotions and improve overall wellness. If you struggle with feelings of anger, depression, anxiety, substance abuse, marriage and relationship challenges, parenting problems, school difficulties, career changes, coping with past trauma, or any other life obstacles, I am here to help navigate through these challenges. I have extensive experience working with individuals (children/adolescents/adults), couples, and families. I have worked in varied settings (private sector, government, residential treatment, outpatient/community) with diverse populations (i.e. LGBTQ, Veterans, etc.).
My approach
I am proficient in a multitude of evidence-based practices and modalities. I do not believe in the “cookie-cutter” approach and utilize a wide range of therapeutic techniques and approaches; for instance, TF-CBT, CBT, Gestalt Therapy, Solution Focused Therapy, Emotionally focused therapy, Insight-Oriented Therapy, Supportive Therapy, and Motivational Interviewing.
My focus
I have extensive experience working with individuals (children/adolescents/adults), couples, and families. I have worked in varied settings (private sector, government, residential treatment, outpatient/community) with diverse populations (i.e. LGBTQ, Veterans, etc.). Given my background and experience, I have developed strong cultural competence, have the ability to build alliances, rapport, and trust, exhibit self-awareness and patience, and always take a non-judgmental, open-minded, empathetic stance.
My communication style
I know that seeking therapy may be one of the most challenging decisions one can make, therefore, it is my priority to create a safe and comfortable environment where one can begin their therapeutic journey. One of my strengths is building strong alliances, rapport, and trust, exhibiting self-awareness and patience, and always taking a non-judgmental, open-minded, empathetic stance.
My goals for you
It is crucial for me to meet my clients where they are at, meaning, it is ultimately your journey and process. My role is to work collaboratively with you, as your partner, to guide you, and help you reach your highest potential. Together, we can identify areas of need and improvements, develop realistic and attainable goals, and begin working towards these goals.
My first session with you
During my initial session, my main focus is to make you feel comfortable and safe. I mostly focus on rapport and relationship building to allow you the space to begin your healing process. During this interaction, trust begins to form. I tend to take an informal approach during this session to promote an easy-going and comfortable environment. Through observations and information gathering, as assessment is completed. Other information is provided, mostly related to HIPAA, Confidentiality, and any other questions and/or concerns the client may have.
