Jelyn Young

Hello, my name is Jelyn Young, Ph.D., and I am a Licensed Psychologist practicing in the state of Florida. I have extensive experience working with adults, children, adolescents, and families, serving populations within inpatient and outpatient, juvenile rehabilitative programs along with other multidisciplinary programs. Additionally, I also have experience working within school systems to address educational challenges, including adjustment, learning disabilities, and ADHD.

My approach

My work is based on the belief that people want to have balanced and fulfilled lives and that they have within themselves the resources to achieve these goals. I believe that psychotherapy can help individuals effectively use resources within themselves to increase self-understanding, improve decision-making, resolve problems, and create new paths to the lives they want. I strive to collaborate with clients to understand their unique situations in a culturally sensitive and competent manner. Whether it’s with the individual or entire support systems, we can all work together to make things better. Major theoretical approaches I utilize include Cognitive Behavioral, Behavior Modification, Solution Focused, Emotion-Focused, Person-Centered, Motivational Interviewing, and Existential.

My focus

The individuals I have experience working alongside have had to address symptoms of Depression, Anxiety, LGBTQ+, Chronic Impulsivity, Coping Skills, Social Skills, Developmental Disorders, Family Conflict, Grief, Learning Disabilities, Parenting, Peer Relationships, Relationship Issues, Self Esteem, Life Adjustment, and Acculturation Conflict.

I believe in the importance of a safe and comfortable therapeutic space. When working with me, I strive to nurture an atmosphere where you are free to explore and be your genuine and authentic self. Together, we will create this and ensure that your needs are being addressed.

My journey to mental healthcare

Being the daughter of a military man I was able to see how different cultures are able to thrive, opening my mind to the idea that there is more than one way to overcome life's hardships and reach the type of life that is meaningful. It is my life's passion to help others discover how they can heal and move toward a life of peace and fulfillment.

My goals for you

I approach goal setting with clients in a collaborative and practical way so that after each session there is clarity on what can be practiced in order to work towards the changes they are working towards.

During the first session, we will go over a comprehensive review of the concerns you are experiencing as well as the areas of change you'd like to focus on.
