Hello, my name is Joy Rhodes, and I am a Licensed Mental Health Counselor with 22 years of experience in the mental health and substance abuse field. I am here to support you in discovering new and healthy ways to manage and resolve the things that you feel are no longer serving you in a positive manner.
My approach
My approach combines solution-focused and cognitive behavioral therapy to help with the development of positive coping skills. I believe that this provides a client with skills that can be used long-term throughout their life and over many situations.
My focus
I work with clients on a wide range of issues, including depression, anxiety, trauma-related behaviors, parenting problems, ADHD and substance use disorders. I have worked extensively with children, adolescents and families as well as many other populations, including homeless veterans, chronically mentally ill and those with addiction issues.
My communication style
My counseling style is warm and interactive. I believe in giving my clients a safe place to discuss their problems and to discover new ways to manage their life challenges in a positive, productive manner.
My journey to mental healthcare
I initially wanted to be a teacher but quickly discovered that I did not find the subject matter that interesting. I took my first psychology class and was hooked. I love to be able to assist people in finding the peace that we all look for in life. I love to see my clients grow and blossom into the people they want to be.
My goals for you
I like to assist clients in identifying and clarifying their needs and developing goals that allow them to reach a place in their life where they can be happy and at peace.
My first session with you
During your first session we will discuss what has brought you to therapy and what you want to accomplish as we work together. I will be happy to answer any questions and concerns you have about the therapy process and what to expect.
