Janice Turner

Hi there, I'm Counselor Jaye. I'm Janice Turner, LMHC. Everyone calls me Counselor Jaye. I have been in the field of counseling for 13 years. I truly love what I do because it's rewarding to work with clients and watch them transform their lives for the better. I enjoy working in a calm and relaxed atmosphere.

My approach

I am a strong believer in how we think and what we feel about ourselves determines who we are. I want my clients to take an active role in their treatment, with the therapist being non-directive and supportive. I also want to help clients understand how changing what they think and believe can change their lives for the better. My modalities are CBT, Client-Centered Therapy, Mindfulness, Dialectical Therapy, and eclectic therapies.

My focus

I enjoy working with a variety of individuals. I like working with individuals between the ages of 13-65. I welcome individuals with relationship and family issues, anger, grief, trauma management, anxiety, depression, career counseling, and adoption.

My communication style

People who know me tell me I'm easy to share things with and I am a great listener. I am known as friendly, genuine, and caring. I believe in positive feedback and things that we need to make us better; I like to build good rapport and trust so we can work together effectively.

My journey to mental healthcare

I was a victim of trauma as a youth. I didn't like to talk about my feelings because it just hurt too much. When I did go to counseling for the first time, it didn't make me feel better. The counselor didn't appear to understand me and I felt rushed to open up. I really did not believe in therapy after that; I gave up. One day I went to a service call at a mental health clinic. I was working on their computer. I heard something outside the window. One of the clients at the clinic had climbed the flagpole midway. I went outside and started talking to her. She talked, I listened. Somehow, I got her to climb down and shared a ham and cheese sandwich that I was going to eat for lunch. The woman said, "You're a good listener". Her words changed my life. That's what I wanted my therapist to do; "I got it". I went back to school and the rest is history.

My goals for you

Having goals helps my clients implement the changes they want to make in their lives. Each client will have a treatment plan that will help them create what they want to accomplish in a specific timeframe. I like to go over goal setting during your 2nd or 3rd session. During the session, we will work as a team and discuss the things you want to work on, and you, the client, will decide which goal you want to work on and when you wish to accomplish it.

My first session with you

In the very first session, we will complete paperwork together. I will answer any questions you have during and after the process. The first session is basically about getting to know you.
