I am a licensed Marriage and Family Therapist and Certified Child and Adolescent Trauma Professional who enjoys working with families of teenagers. I also work with individuals and greatly appreciate the opportunity to help others. Before becoming a therapist, I was an educator for 11 years and specialized in prenatal through age 5.
My approach
My therapeutic style is a blend of Narrative and solution-focused approaches. I am a very open-minded individual who thrives when working with diverse groups.
My focus
I typically work with teenagers and anxiety. I also provide group, couples, and family counseling. I am a Certified Child and Adolescent Trauma Professional and work with trauma compassionately.
My communication style
I am a very open communicator. I am easy to talk to and not easy to get a reaction out of. I tend to be very soft in my communication but will be more blunt if asked. I also like to use humor.
My journey to mental healthcare
I have wanted to be a therapist since I was 14 years old. What initially drew me at that age was not feeling like my parents understood me and wanting to help other teenagers/parents understand and communicate with each other. I was a peer mediator at my school starting at age 8 all the way through graduation at 18. My career did not start in this field, as I was a teacher/administrator for 11 years. During my entire tenure in the education field, I always felt like I wanted to help the families more. This yearning renewed my passion for therapy.
My goals for you
I am very attentive to my client's needs and pick up on their verbal, physical, and facial clues. I am a strong believer that clients should be in charge of their goal-setting. If needed, with this process, I am able to help guide them.
My first session with you
During a first session, clients should expect me to review HIPAA, confidentiality, ethical codes, boundaries, goals, desire for therapy, and other logistics. Clients should also expect a "getting to know you" activity.
