Hi there, I'm Melissa!

I provide a safe place for courageous therapy work. I use practical, evidence-based approaches to help you affirm your strengths and guide you toward solutions. Using a nonjudgmental approach and evidence-based practices, I hope to support, encourage, educate, and empower you. I'll walk with you to help strengthen awareness and increase personal and professional growth.

My approach

My strengths-based, solution-focused approach used evidenced-based practices such as Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR), Internal Family Systems Therapy (IFS), and Mindfulness techniques.

My focus

My ideal client is someone with high functioning and moderate to high stability who needs a little support to improve their lives and to reach their mental health goals.

My communication style

My demeanor is relaxed and calm so that client can feel at ease. I listen actively by asking clarifying questions with a tone of curiosity. Establishing rapport is a process, so I allow the client to engage at their pace.

My journey to mental healthcare

While working as a career consultant with university students and graduates, I realized that many students experienced a high level of anxiety, stress, and career confusion. I longed to have the credentials and experience to help address these mental health issues. So I enrolled in my university's CACREP-accredited clinical mental health counseling program and completed my degree while working full-time in the career counseling department. My internship was completed at a domestic violence shelter where I worked with adults affected by domestic violence and where I facilitated weekly DV support groups.

My goals for you

At the end of a successful treatment progression, the client will experience a measurable reduction in symptoms and a meaningful increase in coping skills.

My first session with you

During my first session, I help put my clients at ease by creating a safe space where they can share their goals and expectations. My goal is to understand the client's lived experience and how that experience is affecting their lives.
