Greetings, my name’s Bertrona Freeman and I am a Licensed Professional Counselor. I focus on utilizing Cognitive Behavioral Therapy specializing in the areas of substance use, addictions, anxiety, and stress.
My approach
I utilize a cognitive-behavioral approach to encourage clients to focus on changing their perception of life experiences in order to improve behavior response. Motivational Interviewing strategies are utilized to elicit change talk about the client’s current situation and develop a person-centered plan to improve the client’s quality of life.
My focus
Clients I normally work with struggle with a revolving cycle of relapse in addiction or substance use. Frequent mood swings as a result of stress, anxiety, or depression. I also worked with those who are easily angered and display frequent fits of aggression or rage.
My communication style
Working with me is a collaborative counselor-client relationship where the client is the expert in their experience and I serve as a guide, assisting them towards reaching their goals. I’m an advocate of Carl Rogers style of counseling involving empathy, genuineness, and unconditional positive regard.
My journey to mental healthcare
I believe that I have been led into this field through divine intervention. Realizing in hindsight that though I originally had other career plans, my higher power orchestrated my path where everything has fallen into place and landed me right where I am! I absolutely love what I do, connecting with all variations of people and assisting them in realizing the depth of their full potential!
My goals for you
Long-term goals will be set based on the client’s stated problem, completing short-term goals that will ultimately achieve the long-term.
