My name is Michael Charnley and I am licensed in the state of Georgia, LPC010672. Of course, over 26 years I have become quite eclectic in the therapies I use, but mostly I want to meet the client where they are. Let the session feel like a conversation between 2 acquaintances.
My approach
I am very eclectic after practicing for 26 years. I use a lot of DBT and CBT along with Motivational Interviewing and Person-Centered Therapy. However, if I do it right the client will simply feel like they are having an acquaintance and learning more about themselves.
My focus
Since worked in various agencies when I started I was able to experience a lot of different issues, Depression, Anxiety, Anger Management, Self-Esteem Issues, and since my clients were adolescents, Family Issues. This setting also allowed me an opportunity to work with Physical, Mental, and Sexual abuse. I am also comfortable working with dual diagnosis issues attached to Addiction and Abuse issues.
My communication style
I want my clients to feel like they having a conversation with an acquaintance in a safe, comfortable setting.
My journey to mental healthcare
In 1991, I started volunteering with teens and enjoyed it so much I decided to become a teacher. When I was later reading the college catalog I read the section on Community and Agency Counseling. So at age 28, I went back to school full-time to get my Master's. I get to share people's lives and hopefully help them make their paths smoother and straighter. What could be better than that?
My goals for you
I like to use SMART goals that are attainable and can be built upon.
My first session with you
There will be conversation and questions as you help me learn about you and understand the issues you seek to work on.
