Hello! I am a licensed clinical social worker in Georgia with over 12 years of experience working as a counselor and life coach. I have helped many people who have experienced physical trauma or emotional abuse. Originally from Mississippi, my counseling approach focuses heavily on building a strong rapport, so that trust is established before goals are discussed. Growing up in the South, treating someone with respect is required. In addition, my years working with individuals experiencing homelessness and those who were uninsured enhanced my awareness of seeing each person for who they are vs what they are currently experiencing.
My approach
My approach combines cognitive-behavioral, narrative, and solution-focused counseling, but I can and will tailor our dialogue and treatment plan to meet your unique and specific needs.
My focus
As a clinical social worker, I have worked with clients with a wide range of concerns including depression, bipolar, schizophrenia, anxiety, relationship issues, career challenges, and anger management.
My communication style
I feel the first step in any healthy relationship/partnership is trust. The responsibility falls on me to ensure that I create a relaxing, light, but informative environment so that we can build trust. I have also been called "The Cool Therapist", due to my ability to use my humor and experience to help you see things differently, all while empowering you to make the necessary changes towards your goals.
My journey to mental healthcare
Before entering the career of social work, I knew I wanted to help those who were in need. Initially, my major was Physical Therapy after witnessing the amazing progress of a client who was in a car wreck and how consistently PT tremendously improved this client's life. Within my second semester of college, I quickly realized that the medical path was not my "thing" and I had an opportunity to sit in an Introduction to Psychology class that changed the course of my life. I switched my major to social work and for 20 years, this career path has been a passion of mine. Although I love being a social worker, in the last 10 years I have had the privilege of partnering with clients as a mental health therapist, who allowed me into their world to encourage them to make some brave changes. Witnessing their success drives me personally and professionally to keep going!
My goals for you
Each session, including the first one, will discuss your weekly/monthly goals. As you prepare to make changes in your life, trying to change too many pieces at once can feel overwhelming. So each session we will ensure there are no emergent needs, review the previous sessions' goals, and then determine if we made progress or if an intervention change/update is needed.
My first session with you
Taking control towards feeling better is a courageous first step and if you are ready, during our first session my goal is to demonstrate to you that I am willing to walk along with you to ensure you are heard, receive support, and empowered along the way.
