My name is Kecia West and I am a licensed Professional Counselor based in the Augusta/Atlanta Georgia area. I counsel with clients across the state via tele-mental health. I work with individuals, couples, families with a specialty in trauma, anxiety, depression and complicated grief utilizing cognitive behavior therapy, solution-focused therapy and family systems.
My approach
My approach to therapy varies based on the clients needs. I most frequently utilize Cognitive Behavior and Solution-focus Therapy as both of these evidenced-based modalities help me and the client collaborate to develop goals and objectives to meet the client's therapeutic need.
My focus
I feel that my style and nonjudgmental approach help me meet the need of the client. I do not focus on the diagnosis as we work collaboratively to meet the need of each individual client. Since the pandemic many clients are facing anxiety, depression, grief and hibernation fatigue. I work to help my clients work through life transition and build the emotional stability needed to conquer life challenges and develop a positive outcome in life.
My communication style
My communication style is centered around collaboration, accommodation with a nonjudgmental stance. I want my clients to feel validated in a judgment free zone working through life's most difficult challenges.
My journey to mental healthcare
I decided to become a therapist early in life. I have always been solution-focused assisting friends and family with viable solution through difficult circumstances as they persisted. As I studied within the field, I realized this is a skill and gift I have and helping clients gain hope that they can work through difficult situations.
My goals for you
My approach to goal setting is a collaboratively effort to help the client look within themselves to see what their needs are and work toward meeting the goals. St times, goals change as the clients work through life challenges. I approach therapy as fluid understanding that unraveling life circumstances may cause goals to be reassessed throughout the therapeutic process.
My first session with you
My first session is mainly to build rapport through collaboration. We will spend time talking about what you feel are the most pressing concerns and me asking question to better understand your needs as it relates to healing and repair. Every client is different so active listening is paramount within the therapeutic process to give you the best outcome desired.
