Greetings! My name is Lakeisha S. McNeil, LPC. With a caring and compassionate heart, I strive to provide a warm, nonjudgmental environment where you can feel safe to address your issues with confidence. I have assisted clients with various issues including substance abuse, conflict resolution, depression, anxiety, stress management, career/vocational guidance personal crisis, life transitions, and relationship and coping skills.
My approach
My main approaches include Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Humanistic therapy, and mindfulness but I also understand that theory is not a one-size-fits-all so I utilize therapeutic approaches that best meet the needs of my clients.
My focus
The clients that I typically work with are clients that are serious about prioritizing their mental health and understand that therapy is a collaborative effort between the therapist and client. Anxiety, relationship issues, and life transitions are among the issues that I am most comfortable treating.
My communication style
I understand that the therapeutic alliance is extremely important to move through the therapy process. I strive to develop a rapport and establish connections with my client by creating a warm, non-judgmental environment where clients feel supported and heard throughout the therapy process.
My journey to mental healthcare
Many people are blessed with so many wonderful talents and for a while, I struggled to find my own. I wasn't blessed with the gift of song and I'm not athletically or artistically inclined but I discovered that I was blessed with the gift to instill hope in others and being a therapist allows me to utilize my gift to help others find hope in very difficult times. It is an honor to come alongside my clients on their therapy journey to provide the guidance and support needed to achieve the happiness and solace they desire to be successful in their career, their life, and all other endeavors.
My goals for you
Goal setting is done collaboratively based on clients' interests and not the interest of the therapist. I make it a priority to check in periodically to assess clients assessment of their progress toward their desired goals.
My first session with you
During the initial, session my main focus is to ensure that the client feels comfortable by taking time to explain the main aspects of the session which included a general overview of the therapy process, my approach to therapy, and a review of documents. I think it is important to allow the client time to tell their story with as much or as little detail as they feel comfortable during the initial session to begin the process of establishing a direction for therapy. At the end of the session, I allow for time to address any issues or concerns the client may have and discuss follow-up.
