My name is Dr. Michael Freeman and I am a Licensed Professional Counselor based in Alpharetta, GA working with clients statewide via telehealth. I work with adults ages 21 and over utilizing a variety of therapeutic approaches such as Humanistic, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Integrative, Multi-cultural, and Transpersonal Therapy. I am also certified in Clinical Hypnotherapy. I specialize in treating anxiety, depression, grief, the Highly Sensitive Person (HSP), life transitions, mid-life crisis, stress, and spiritual transformation.
My approach
My primary core approach in working with all clients is Holistic and Humanistic, which encompasses a mind-body-spirit perspective as well as Client-centered and Existential components. I treat the "whole" person to promote healing and facilitate wholeness by incorporating techniques such as progressive relaxation, guided imagery, and breathwork. Being client-centered allows space to build rapport and trust with the client, which is so vital to the success of therapy. The Existential aspect of this approach emphasizes self-inquiry and reflection, personal responsibility, and freedom.
My focus
Given my style and approach to therapy, I find that I am a good fit for adults seeking a deeper connection to themselves and others, a desire to live a life free from self-imposed limitations to become more authentic and ultimately find greater meaning and purpose in life. I also work with clients struggling with anxiety, depression, grief, life transitions, and stress. Two other specializations that I work with are clients who identify as Highly Sensitive and the myriad of challenges this presents in navigating everyday life as well as cultivating its many gifts; secondly, clients who are going through a spiritual transformation as a result of having spiritually transformative experiences such as Near-Death Experiences (NDEs) and other types of Spiritual Awakenings.
My communication style
My communication style when working with clients is calm, relaxed, compassionate, caring, non-judgmental, and inquisitive. I want my clients to feel safe in their therapeutic process and for them to know I will be there to support them every step of the way on this challenging but exciting journey of self-examination and self-exploration.
My first session with you
In the first session, the client should expect an opportunity to begin building a connection with one another by helping me better understand one's history, current issues and challenges, and exploring potential goals desired. I will be asking a myriad of questions to help facilitate this process so I can begin to connect the dots and truly grasp how the client arrived in this current state of being; from there we can begin to map out the next steps and strategies to begin the healing process.
