Hi! My name is Jessica Durbin and I am a Licensed Professional Counselor in the state of Georgia. I specialize in trauma, anxiety, and depression, as well as have worked with disorders such as schizophrenia, bipolar, PTSD, and substance abuse. I work from a person-centered, holistic approach. I thoroughly enjoy working in the mental health field and strive to provide the best care possible, treating the whole person.
My approach
My approach is person centered and holistic. I strive to be nonjudgmental no matter the situation that brought you to therapy. I am completely sensitive to your specific needs. I utilize mindfulness, supportive counseling, and CBT techniques to help bring about change and understanding.
My focus
I have experience working with complex mental health issues having worked in a psychiatric hospitalization setting and the prison system as a mental health professional over the last 4 years. I have worked with adult males and females in different stages of life. I have also worked with a wide range of substance abuse issues in every stage of recovery.
My communication style
I work from a person-centered point of view to create a safe and open environment. I believe in meeting the client where they are and allowing them to make their own decisions. The client is the expert in their own life. My sessions are to help you discover your strengths and learn more about yourself to help you make the progress you want to make.
My journey to mental healthcare
Life can be a stressful experience with many twists and turns. Sometimes we are faced with experiences that are overwhelming, debilitating, and difficult to overcome on our own. I understand how difficult life can be at times, having been a military spouse and currently a working mother. I graduated with my Master's in Clinical and Mental Health Counseling from South University in 2019. I am currently getting my Doctorate in Marriage and Family Therapy with a specialization in Children and Adolescent Therapy from Northcentral University. I have over 4 years of experience working with all different types of mental health disorders. I want to help you overcome the challenges you face and feel better about yourself.
My goals for you
Goals are the motivations that keep a person moving. When setting goals it will be a collaboration between all parties and each session will focus on reaching those goals. As the client you set your own goals and what you want to get out of therapy and I am here to help teach and support you along the way.
My first session with you
During the first session, there will be a lot of getting to know one another. I believe in the therapeutic relationship and this relationship begins in the first session. Expect a lot of questions to allow me to better understand who you are as a person. Also expect to learn more about what therapy is, what is allowed, and the limits to confidentiality.
